Therapy type:

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

  • Main concept: thoughts (cognition), feelings (emotion) and how we act (behavior) all interact together.

  • Become aware of when making negative interpretations, and of behavioral patterns which reinforce distorted thinking. 

  • Develop alternative ways of thinking and behaving.

  • Learn to deal with overwhelming problems in a more positive way by breaking them down into smaller parts.

  • CBT has effectiveness rates of 60-90%

  • CBT is geared to be short term (3-6 months)

  • CBT is skills-based; you learn the tools to handle/ cope with anxiety, depression, etc., on your own.

  • CBT has better short-term and long-term effectiveness rates compared to medication alone!
